RECYCLEFinder HK was made to solve environmental issue in Hong Kong
to encourage and help people in Hong Kong recycle more by making it easy to find recyclable points
available in the city
What stops Hong Kong from recycling its waste?
I have noticed that everyone in Hong Kong is now aware of the amount of waste we produce everyday and many are willing to recycle their waste more, however not many people are currently doing so, why?
One of the major reasons pointed out was the lack of recyclable points available in the city, and many asked "How do we even find where we can take what waste to recycle?"
That is how I realised it may not be the lack of recyclable points available, but it is the difficulties in knowing and finding where they are in Hong Kong
If everyone could easily find where and what waste they can take near their home or office to recycle, will it remove excuses and help to get more people in Hong Kong to recycle?
Hong Kong government provides the information and list of recyclable points in the city
on the sites as below:
So the information is available but it is not helpful when it comes to letting people
easily find recyclable points nearest to where they live or work, or what can be recycled at
each point
So other software developers and I have decided to use Recyclable Collection Points Data
API from Hong Kong government with Google API to design and build a web app that user can easily
find and locate recyclable points on the map
How this web app is made
Made as group project with other software developers with backend function so that users can
register and login to store their recycling activities, this is simplified version with no register or login functions
Other software developers worked on backend functions and Google API parts,I was mainly responsible for the data retrieval and rendering from Recyclable Collection Points Data API from Hong Kong government and frontend/UI of the app
